My pregnancy with Sophia was fabulous. I loved being pregnant and read everything there was to read about birth and pregnancy. I went to hypnobirthing sessions and also some Birthskills classes with Juju Sundin. I was very determined to have a natural birth, with no intervention and booked into the birth centre of my local public hospital. The MW were great throughout my pregnancy and I felt supported and that I was in the right place.

On Saturday 14th October I was 9 days overdue or 6 or 13 ...

After 2 c/secs............

On Australia day we went out for lunch. Then we went for a swim. I felt fine, but after we got home I started feeling weird. My muscles couldn't relax, and I felt fluey but without the snot nose or sore throat. I had a miserable night, I was hot then cold, I wasn't hungry, I couldn't get comfortable, and I decided I was constipated. I had some panadol when I started getting cramps. I started losing blood stained mucus, but I thought to myself "that can happen, ...

The birth of my daughter (first child in 2006) was a c-section as I had an ante-partum haemmorage post dates and was induced with syntocinon. I had done a lot of planning for a natural birth and was shocked about how things turned out.I had planned to birth in a birth centre but was transferred due to this complication. After 8 hrs I had reached 4 cm and was happy to keep going. After another 8 hours I was still 4 cm. I then resisted c-sect pressure from OB for 3 hrs but was still 4cm!! They ...

I have had 2 births and have been blessed to have them relativly trauma free. I am lucky that they didn't leave me with any long term effects. (Other than saggy boobs and stretch marks!!) I was 18 when i had my first precious child (Daniel). With the enthusiasm and innocence of youth I took the challenge and flew with it, thouroughly enjoying and relishing my pregnancy.

Back then, (26 yrs ago), there certainly wasn't as much info out there to gather for a non-working (read "poor"!) ...

What are the sounds of a home birth? In July I birthed my daughter right here in my study. Normally this room has the tapping of keys on my computer, the fortunately silent but reproachful stare of the clean washing piling up and the murmuring of cats nesting in it.

I laboured mostly upright, always standing for contractions as they powered through my body and making a lot of releasing noises which increased in intensity over the several days of my labour. In this room I inarticulately ...

Firstly I just want to say that I had a strange feeling throughout my whole pregnancy that I would not have a straight forward birth with my second child. I always just had a feeling something would go wrong - this haunts me still to this day.

I was one week overdue with my second child. It was 5:30 am on Sunday July 22nd when I woke with a warm trickle running down my leg. I got up and walked to the toilet and was excited to realise that it was in fact my waters breaking. I was so excited ...

Hello lovely people,

I have finally had a chance to type out my birth story while my lovely DP is playing with a very demanding DD! Hopefully it will help me move forward to whatever my next step to healing might be.

My first visit to the hospital was exciting, but I came out bitterly disappointed with how the Dr treated me. I was spoken down to, and then she told me that I had inverted nipples (I'm not quite sure where she got that from - they are fine!) and that I had to do exercises ...

Like a form of foreplay, this long latency process (“forelabor”) seems to set up the biological and social circumstances so that all the “elements for success” are simultaneously present. Latent labor gets everyone gathered, involved and geared up to attend to the biological and emotional needs of the mother and baby. The marriage of biology to psychology with its attendant association to sociology (the right people present and the wrong people not) is necessary for physiological function.

My son's birth was a week- long spurious pre/early labour. I had very little support and felt alone and scared. Every time I went to the hospital, labour stalled. I now of course know I should have stayed home much longer (probably not gone to the hospital at all lol..but I knew nothing much about home birth back then, and couldn't have afforded one back then anyway). Liam's labour was posterior and very painful-even at the pre and early labour stage. I couldn't get comfortable, and I couldn't ...

I'll try and keep this short! This is the birth that inspired this website...

I felt like I had prepared myself for birth well. I listened to meditation CD’s every day, and challenged all the negative beliefs I had about birthing, transforming them into more positive, empowering statements. I thought, through the power of positive thinking, I could make birth a serene, natural and easy event.

I was so wrong! It all went much differently to what I had envisaged, and it turned out to ...

My labour began at 11:24pm on 31st July 07. I got this sharp pain in my tummy that woke me up. I knew straight away it was a contraction because I had had two previously that day. I was 10 days overdue and was booked in to be induced on the Friday. I sort of moaned for the first few contractions, but was able to not wake DH, but come midnight, they were already 10 minues apart and I was up and down to the toilet for a half hour.
I wrote this when my son was about 11 weeks old. I haven't changed it but I now feel differently about some aspects of it. I know now that I didn't need the surgery.

I have finished a draft of my "birth" story. The best parts of it were my labour at home, which was planned as a home birth, and a rebirthing or welcoming I went through when Conor was 4 months old. I got to welcome him in a way that was completely obliterated by the hospital. So here it is if you've the stamina to ...

I thought I'd write the strange tale of Loughlin's "birth weeks" sooner rather than later, given my deep seated fear of forgetting things!

TTC started with a miscarriage (as you may already know) so when Spike (Loughlin) came around a mere 3 months later I was petrified of losing him. I spent a long time living with terrified hopefulness. But he stuck around for 16 weeks of nausea and 43 weeks of a pregnancy! I was worried about losing him till at 30 weeks when I realised I'd been ...

My story begins nearly 8 years ago and I've never written it down, nor anything about it. I fell pregnant when I was 19 (young by the standards of the day- not so young biologically) and I was in an abusive relationship. I had no support from anywhere but I decided to have the baby. My partner, his family, my family and my friends all assumed I'd either have an abortion, or be a dreadful mother, who couldn't survive without their (excluding the friends here) money and "baby sitting" ...

OK, here are my stories, I will try to keep it short but be patient, I have had 5 babies – only 4 pregnancies though ‘cause I got a 2 for 1 deal with the twins.

First DD1. I think the thing that will stay with me after having her was that I was psyched for a lengthy labour after 40 weeks pregnancy, a rugged pushing and da-da, a normal vaginal birth….I looked after myself all pregnancy, made a birth plan, organised all the things you need for a baby, held up my end of the bargain pretty ...

My DS was born in December 06. My pregnancy had been troubled from the start. I had morning sickness for 7 months and a huge feeling of pelvic pressure from about 15 weeks. I had bouts of bleeding throughout and recurrent kidney infections. But obstetrician just kept telling me I was a healthy woman and pregnancy was normal. DS engaged at 20 weeks and I went into prem labour at 30.5 weeks. I was kept in hospital on complete bed rest and medication for 4 weeks, sent home for bed rest until ...
